The Ocean Atlas of Jimmy Cornell

2011-12-14

Jimmy Cornell, the long distance voyager (circumnavigator) and author of many books concerning long distance cruising, publishes a new atlas of Pilot-Charts.
The pilot charts are charts and maps indicating the wind conditions and ocean currents likely towards given direction, on monthly basis. Traditionally, the pilot charts are based on data compiled from more than 100 years.
The accelerated climate changes from the latter years have provided these imprecise information and sometimes even erroneous.
After having the most relevant possible forecasts, Jimmy Cornell has used the weather data gathered by a meteorological satellite network over the last twenty years.
It results in a precise and exhaustive collection of new pilot charts, representing more conditions than the sailor meets today while navigating.

Directly excited with this approach, the “Grand Large Yachting" group is proud of being able to support this project.

The Paris Boat Show “Nautic” is getting near!

2011-12-01

For this 51st edition of the “Nautic”, the Allures Yachting, Garcia Yachting and Outremer Yachting shipyards get together under the banner of the Grand Large Yachting stand, the hub of blue water sailing.

Various animations will be proposed on our stand (Hall 1 - G40) during the show.

First, the famous sailor and writer Jimmy Cornell will sign copies of his new book ‘The Cornell’s Ocean Atlas’ on Saturday 3 December between 16.00 and 18.00 on our stand.
We expect many of you will want to come to this signing session and ask pertinent questions to Jimmy Cornell.

Also, on the occasion of the Owners’ evening, we will have the pleasure of welcoming the navigator Sébastien Roubinet who will tell us all about his extraordinary adventure when sailing the northwest passage and his attempt to cross the Arctic Ocean on his catamaran Babouche!

A Boatshow is also of course the best opportunity to visit the exhibitors’ yachts. This year, we are putting on show a 2-cabin and technical space version of our Allures 45, ready to take to sea fully equipped for long distance cruising and diving.

Out of respect for the owners who are king enough to lend their yachts for the Show, the number of people allowed on board at any one time will be limited.  This may cause visitors to have to wait occasionally.
This is why we invite you to make an appointment in order to get the best service without queuing. We thank you in advance.

To confirm your visit, please contact: Olivier Vantrepol (+33 6 16 05 27 02 - olivier.vantrepol@allures.fr).

Seatrials of the Allures 45 by Bateaux magazine

2011-12-01

We had the pleasure to welcome the Bateaux magazine journalists for the Allures 45 seatrials.

The conditions were summary when we sailed out of Cherbourg for these trials.
We tacked under gennaker to make the best of the thermal wind, dropped the anchor a few yards from the beach, went through all kinds of manoeuvres so that the crew could test the latest model launched by the shipyard to the full.

Extracts:

- “This is a safe boat, in respect of her built as well as the cockpit and deck fitting out”.
- “The strength of the boat is the ease of access to the technical systems, electrics, plumbing, there is even an access hatch to the deck gear!”
- “The Berret-Racoupeau design office focused on the volume to offer a maximum of interior space, allowing to embark a lot of equipment without compromising the boat’s performance.”
- “A boat in which one feels totally safe that is nevertheless swift on the water.”
- “With the thermal wind increasing, we reach 15 knots. The Allures 45 settles close to the wind under Solent and full mainsail. With a 45° true wind angle, we average 7knots to 7.5 knots in the gusts!”
- “The Allures 44, her predecessor, sold 43 units, which hold their value on the second hand market. It may be hardly believable but a pre-owned Allures 44 can cost up to 300,000 €!”

You can read the seatrial report in its integrity in the magazine n° 641.

Jimmy Cornell puts the Allures 45 to the test

2011-09-06

The famous navigator and author Jimmy Cornell came to the Allures Yachting shipyard at the beginning of July to seatrial the Allures 45 for the magazine Cruising World.

Jimmy states: “In the last twelve years I have sailed 70,000 miles on an aluminium centreboard boat and I regard this type of yacht as incorporating all the essential criteria for an offshore cruising yacht: comfort, ease of handling, speed and above all, safety.
The Allures 45 is the perfect choice for a voyage to any corner of the world. »

Jimmy Cornell
In his long sailing life Jimmy Cornell has sailed 200,000 miles in all oceans of the world. He is the author of many sailing books; the most well known World Cruising Routes is the bible for all offshore sailors.
He is also the founder of the ARC, now in its 25th year, and the largest transoceanic event in the world, website www.noonsite.com, the best global source of practical information for cruising sailors.
The prestigious magazine Yachting World has stated: “What Jimmy Cornell does not know about cruising is not worth knowing”. On its 100th anniversary the German magazine “Die Yacht” has nominated Jimmy Cornell as one of the 100 most outstanding sailors of all time.

Allures 45

“The Allures 45 – a fast Pullman !”

2011-09-06

… was the title chosen by François-Xavier Ricardou, journalist for Voiles et Voiliers, for his report on the Allures 45 seatrials.

A comprehensive programme was initiated in order to evaluate in details all the aspects of the Allures Yachting shipyard’s new sailing yacht. During the three-day cruise along the coasts of the Cotentin, François-Xavier Ricardou put the yacht to the test under various conditions; sailing under gennaker, drying out on the beach in Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue, sailing up the Carentan Canal, navigating at night...
The seatrial was followed by a visit to the shipyard in Cherbourg to witness at first hand the skills and innovative techniques of the Allures Yachting shipyard.

Extracts:
- “The aft starboard cabin has become the technical area that all blue water skippers have ever dreamt of...”
- “ With her twin rudder, the Allures 45 is very responsive to the helm”
- “High performance easy to handle yacht: .The deck gear is sized just right for the job and the split sail plan forward with gennaker, solent and staysail, ensures the safety of the crew while manoeuvring. A sailing yacht suitable for all hands.“
- “We rarely had the opportunity to sail on the first yacht of a series that is so well designed.”
- “This remarkable suitability of the equipment is associated with an even better than average finish.”
- “The shipyard strove for excellence and has virtually achieved their objective with a clean and spacious yacht where performance is not compromised.”

The complete report of these seatrials can be found in the August issue of Voiles et Voiliers, n°486.

2011-04-02

A promising blog to follow closely on www.grandlargecafe.com

"Tri martolod" means "Three sailors" in Breton. It is also the title of a famous French song, which tells the story of three fishermen’s leaving the harbor for the high sea.

Our three boys we named Bernard, Joel and Pierre Henri. They are friends for 40 years. In 1975, young engineering graduates, to laugh, they took the commitment to leave one day together.
A joke that becomes a reality in 2008 in a windy passage between the Cornwall and Brittany. Joel, onboard with Pierre Henri and Bernard, spoke about their old plan, sailing the Atlantic together. His two accomplices announce that they are...

Sailing boat of the year 2011: the Allures 45 won the 2nd place

At the end of the Grand Pavois boat show, where the Allures 45 was presented for the first time in France,  our team has been invited to participate in the 15th edition of the ‘sail boat of the year’ organized by a French sailing magazine. This election was attended by more than 20 different sailing boats.
After 2 days of navigation in the light air of La Rochelle, the jury composed of 16 members, chaired by Alessandro di Benedetto, awarded the Allures 45 as second.
The new Allures surprised the jury by the quality of design, manufacture and performance.

Extracts;
- "Well built, smart conception, simplified access to the systems, ergonomic design  and very meticulous finishes, a responsive steering system;" You will have understood, the new Allures can hardly be considered in default."
- "And in addition she sails very well in light airs with her gennaker!"
- "Everything is well thought aboard, the specifications of a proper bluewater sailing boat respected to the letter."
- "Reassuring and innovative, well designed into the smallest detail, frankly I am seduced, and she goes really well under sail."

Congratulations to the Django 770, brilliant winner of this 2010 election!
